The Michele's Pies StoryMichele's Pies is a gourmet pie shop serving handmade sweet and savory pies, an array of handmade cookies, tea breads, puff pastry, cheesecakes and other unique baked goods. We opened the doors to our Norwalk store in December 2007 with one simple goal: to surround ourselves with the things we love most: Pies filled with the freshest, most flavorful ingredients from local farms and markets. In March 2011, we opened a second store in Westport, CT. In just under 5 years, Michele's Pies has won a total of 27 National Pie Championships. The secret to Michele's pies is that "they are handmade with love."
My earliest childhood memories center around my grandma's kitchen, where she and I would spend hours peeling fruit, crimping dough, creating glazes, and monitoring our creations to make sure they achieved perfection. When she passed away in 2006, the last thing I told her was, "Grandma, one day I am going to make your pies famous!" |
In May 2006, I founded my business in Killington, Vermont, baking pies in the kitchen of my ski condo and selling them throughout Vermont at farmers markets and to local businesses. Around this same time I was introduced to Kelly, the man who is now my husband and business partner. After competing in the 2007 National Pie Championships and winning 1st place for my Chocolate Pecan Bourbon Pie, Kelly convinced me it was time to expand. It was then that we found the perfect space in Norwalk, CT and Michele's Pies was born.
For all of the unbelievable experiences I've had since Michele's Pies opened for business, it's the day-to-day routine that satisfies me most. Every day when I open the bakery doors and catch the smell of the sweet and spicy flavors that greet me, I still get a little thrill. I get to spend my days making my favorite pies, creating new ones, and chatting with our customers.
